Legal Work Products: I know you are anxious to see what my work product looks like.  Fortunately, I have had the chance to do a significant amount of research and writing as a law clerk for Workland & Witherspoon PLLC in Spokane, Washington.  As a law clerk I have been given great responsibility in drafting memoranda for use within and outside the office.  I have also drafted responses to IRS and SEC inquiries as well as prepared a request for an IRS private letter ruling.  Below you will find a couple samples of my work with names and identifying information changed or removed.
Private Letter Ruling Request (8 pages) - Here is complete request for an IRS private letter ruling that I worked on under the supervision of Gary Randall. I re-typed the hardcopy of my origal draft, so this is entirely my work product.  Some changes were made before the request was submited to the IRS.
Fair Housing Act Memo (7 pages) - This a memo I wrote in response to a complaint of discrimination in rental housing.  I think it is one of my better writing samples.
First Year Legal Research and Writing Memos: My first year of research and writing was a brutal one to say the least.  The assignments were difficult and perfection was demanded from a student who knew very little about the law.  I may not have achieved perfection, but I took my best shot receiving an A- first semester and a B+ second semester.  I am convinced that I received some of the best teaching available thanks to my instructor, Mark Deforrest.

The decision of whether or not I should post my research and writing assignments was a tough one.  Although they are pretty good, there are small deficiencies in the research and writing since these are some of my first attempts at legal writing. A quick reading of the three samples presented will reveal a definite improvement in both writing style and research scope from assignment to assignment.  The end result, as evidenced by the LRW II Final Memo, is a solid research and writing foundation which I plan on perfecting during my second year.

Second Year Research and Writing: Once again, another year with Mark Deforrest.
This year is tough becauase I have less time to complete the projects, but I am more comfortable with my research and a lot faster.  Below is an un-edited memorandum in support of a summary judgment motion.  If you want to see what I can do with little time and lots of pressure, check it out.
